Lisa Ahier (Your Host): Chef Lisa Ahier, a celebrated culinary innovator, leads your journey. From her iconic SoBo food truck to becoming a Top Chef Canada finalist, Lisa’s “grassroots gourmet” philosophy celebrates locally sourced ingredients, sustainable practices, and heartfelt storytelling.

Chef Cory Crabbe (Abbondanza Pizzeria): A community staple since 2014, Cory combines authentic Italian pizza-making techniques with his love for local ingredients. His wood-fired creations are more than food—they’re an exercise in community, tradition, and sustainability.

Tarah Buchanan (Forager and Mixologist): In the garden at Heartwood Kitchen, Tarah blends her foraging expertise with her passion for crafting unique syrups, shrubs, and cocktails. Her flight of beverages weaves together locally foraged ingredients like sea asparagus and pine with incredible stories about the land and sea.

Chef Ian Riddick (Heartwood Kitchen Food Outfitters): Ian brings decades of experience in global and local kitchens to his innovative dishes. A master of seasonality and improvisation, Ian showcases the Pacific Rim’s bounty in creative and approachable ways.

Chef Shaun Snelling (The Great Room at Long Beach Lodge Resort): Shaun’s deep connection to the west coast is evident in every dish, which features sustainably sourced seafood, foraged ingredients, and a love for this region’s natural beauty.

Chef David Provencal (Ombre Restaurant): Blending Mediterranean techniques with Pacific Rim flavors, David’s sharing plates offer a glimpse into the future of Tofino’s food scene while honouring the legacy of SoBo, the restaurant that originally called this space home.

Together, these chefs and collaborators represent nearly 100 years of life and experience on the Pacific Rim.

Chef Lisa Ahier is a celebrated culinary innovator whose journey has shaped the food culture of Vancouver Island’s Pacific Rim. Trained at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in New York City, Lisa honed her craft under the mentorship of James Beard Award-winning Chef Melissa Kelly, who instilled in her a deep respect for ethical sourcing and sustainable food practices.

Before making her mark on Canada’s west coast, Lisa worked at the renowned Cibolo Creek Ranch in Texas, where she cooked for Hollywood royalty and rock legends, including Mick Jagger.

From her beginnings as the opening chef at Long Beach Lodge to launching her iconic SoBo food truck, Lisa’s journey is a testament to creativity, resilience, and a deep connection to community and place.

Lisa’s culinary philosophy—“grassroots gourmet”—celebrates fresh, locally-sourced ingredients prepared with care and innovation. Her dishes reflect the bounty of the Pacific Rim, inspired by the region’s natural environment and Indigenous traditions. Nettles in spring, wild salmon, seaweed, and foraged mushrooms often find their way onto her plates, embodying the terroir of this stunning coastal landscape.

A Top Chef Canada finalist and award-winning cookbook author featured in the National Post, Lisa is not only a celebrated chef but also a community builder. She spearheaded initiatives like healthier school lunch programs and co-founded the Tofino Ucluelet Culinary Guild to support local farmers and sustainable food sourcing. Her work has impacted countless lives—from families touched by her heartfelt offerings to chefs she has mentored who now lead their own culinary ventures in Tofino and beyond.
