Hospitality rooted in relationship
How we work
How we work matters as much as what we offer.
Chew On This was built on the belief that good experiences come from good relationships. With partners, with guests, with the places we move through. This page reflects how that belief shows up in practice, in the decisions we make before anyone books a tour, and in how we show up once they do.
We don’t have a long-form EDI policy. What we have is a written values and practice statement that has guided how we design, promote, host, and review our experiences from the beginning. It’s still evolving. But it’s active.
How we choose partners
We work with locally owned, women-led, newcomer-led, Indigenous-led, and culturally specific businesses where there is a clear relationship and genuine fit. We don’t extract cultural stories or use them as marketing material. We center the voice and leadership of our partners, particularly in Indigenous-led experiences. We compensate partners respectfully and maintain pricing that reflects the real value of their contribution.
how we design for guests
We keep group sizes small so guests, partners, and hosts are not rushed or overwhelmed. We review accessibility needs in advance wherever possible, including walking distance, seating, venue access, pacing, and mobility considerations. We review dietary needs before confirming suitability rather than promising universal accommodation. We aim to create experiences where guests feel welcomed, considered, and able to participate without pressure or performance.
how we communicate
We use marketing language that reflects each experience honestly. We avoid stereotyping, tokenizing, or commodifying culture. We don’t overstate learning, healing, or transformation. What we promise is what we deliver.
For ROOTED specifically, cultural integrity is central to everything. The experience is framed around trust, relational hospitality, and Sarah’s voice. We are deliberate about avoiding performative reconciliation or commodified Indigenous tourism in how we describe, promote, and deliver it.
Have questions about accessibility, dietary needs, or whether an experience is the right fit for your group? We’d rather you ask in advance than arrive uncertain.
